I am married to an incredible woman named Amanda and have five amazing children. I would consider myself an entrepreneur and absolutely love the challenge of building businesses. I also love the journey of personal development. I don't believe in drifting through life on auto-pilot. I believe we are presented each day with opportunities to improve and become better. I choose to embrace these opportunities and use the lessons I learn to become a better "me" and continuously strive to embrace each moment!

If You Want Something You Don’t Have … TAKE ACTION!

By on August 13, 2009

Let’s face it … each of us want things we don’t currently have and circumstances we’d love to improve.

The question is how bad do you want them, and are you willing to do what it takes?

I’ve often found myself complaining about how busy I am and how difficult it is to accomplish all that I want to.

About 18 months ago I decided to keep track of everything I was doing throughout the course of each day so I could attempt to figure out how I could maximize my productivity and accomplish more.

To my surprise …

Although I was busy, I wasn’t very productive.

I spent the majority of my day like a plate spinner.  I’d work on one project for a few minutes … then I’d check my email … then it was time for Facebook … then I’d need to talk with one of my co-workers … then I’d think of another task and work on that for a minute, and so on and so on!

The most successful people in this world become successful due to their ability to stay focused on their goals and take action to accomplish them.  These people are typically very organized and do an excellent job of staying on task.  If they aren’t, they hire someone to keep them on task.  🙂

Just look at the President of the United States for example…

I am quite sure there isn’t another human being that accomplishes more each day than him.  When watching the news at night I’ve often wondered how he can be in three or four places around the world in the same day, sign bills,  have time for photo ops with his family and still have time for sleep!

I am not the smartest person in the world but when I heard the saying, “if you keep on doing what you’ve always done, you’ll continue to get what you’ve always got.”

I listened.  I realized that if I ever wanted to be successful like the people I admired, I was going to need to make some changes.

If you are going to take the time to set goals, create a plan, and you truly believe you can accomplish those goals … make sure you follow through and TAKE ACTION!

Since we’re all typically creatures of habit, it won’t be easy at first.  You’ll find yourself slipping back into your old habit patterns, but since you know this is going to be the case…

STOP YOURSELF and get back to your plan!

The longer you continue to focus on taking action, the better you will feel about yourself and the closer you’ll get to accomplishing your goals.

Experts say it takes a human being 28 days to form a new habit.  Most people do very well for a few days or a couple weeks, and then give up.  The most successful people are those who don’t stop, and continue on through the initial stages required for habit reformation.

Is it easy?  Heck no, but in my opinion it is much easier than paying the price of mediocrity.  That price, to me, is very steep and something I WILL NOT PAY!

We are only on this earth for a very limited amount of time and in my opinion, I want to make as big of an impact as possible.  The only way to accomplish that is to TAKE ACTION!
